In my daily walk I find
I'm comin' in contact all a'the time
With the very one I fear most.
It don't matter how I prepare,
I'm always fallin' into his snare,
And hurtin' the very One I love most.
"For that which I do I allow not:
For what I would, that do I not;
But what I hate, that do I,"
Then turn to face me eye to eye.
You heard that right,
I fear me, misleadin' me most religiously,
Providin' me the very worst advice;
While all the while, He's been right there,
The One who taught me how to care;
I should learn to follow Jesus Christ.
"For that which I do I allow not: For what I would, that do I not;
But what I hate, that do I,"
Then turn to face me eye to eye.
I've heard is said that God helps them
Who help themselves right to the end,
But those who help themselves must be on guard;
For the Devil's got a golden voice,
But I'm the one who makes the choice
To follow him or wait upon the Lord.
"For that which I do I allow not: For what I would, that do I not;
But what I hate, that do I,"
Then turn to face me eye to eye.
You heard that right,
I fear me, misleadin' me most religiously,
Providin' me the very worst advice;
While all the while, He's been right there,
The One who taught me how to care;
I should learn to follow—
I really have gotta learn to follow—
I really should learn to take my lead from—
I absolutely have to follow Jesus Christ.
